Easter Monday

Easter Monday in Slovakia, known as *Veľkonočný pondelok*, is a vibrant and festive holiday that follows Easter Sunday. It is deeply rooted in Christian traditions but also incorporates unique Slovak customs. One of the most distinctive practices is the *oblievačka* or *šibačka*, where men playfully sprinkle water on women or lightly whip them with handmade willow whips. This tradition is believed to bring health, beauty, and vitality to women throughout the year. In return, women often reward the men with decorated eggs, chocolates, or small gifts. Families also gather for festive meals, which typically include traditional dishes like *šúľance* (dumplings) or *hrudka* (a type of Easter cheese).
