Columbus Day

Columbus Day in Puerto Rico, known as *Día de la Raza* or *Día de la Hispanidad*, is celebrated on October 12th to commemorate Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas in 1492. While the holiday originally honored Columbus's voyage, it has evolved to celebrate the cultural heritage and diversity of Puerto Rico, blending Indigenous Taíno, African, and Spanish influences. In Puerto Rico, the day is marked with parades, festivals, and educational events that highlight the island's rich history and multicultural identity.
