Whit Monday, known as *Lundi de Pentecôte* in France, is a public holiday celebrated the day after Pentecost Sunday, which falls 50 days after Easter. Rooted in Christian tradition, it commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, as described in the New Testament. In France, Whit Monday has historically been a day of religious observance, but over time, it has also become a secular holiday for relaxation and family gatherings. In 2004, the French government introduced a controversial measure called the *Journée de solidarité* (Solidarity Day) to fund elderly care, requiring employees to work on Whit Monday without additional pay. However, this policy has evolved, and many workers now receive the day off again, depending on their employment agreements. Whit Monday is typically marked by quiet family time, outdoor activities, and local events, as many businesses and government offices remain closed.
