**Christmas Day in Ecuador** is a vibrant and deeply religious celebration that blends traditional Catholic customs with unique local traditions. Celebrated on December 25th, it is one of the most important holidays in the country, marked by family gatherings, festive meals, and religious observances. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Ecuadorians participate in *Novenas*, a series of nine days of prayer and reflection, often held in homes or churches. On Christmas Eve, families attend *Misa de Gallo* (Midnight Mass) to commemorate the birth of Jesus. After the service, they return home for a late-night feast, which typically includes *lechón* (roast pork), *hornado* (roast pork with potatoes), *pristiños* (fried dough with syrup), and *colada morada* (a spiced fruit drink). A unique Ecuadorian tradition is the creation of *pesebres* (nativity scenes), which are displayed in homes and public spaces. In some regions, particularly in the Andes, communities also perform *pastorelas* (shepherd plays) and *pase del niño* (processions) featuring children dressed as biblical characters. Gift-giving is common, and children often receive presents from *Papá Noel* (Santa Claus) or the *Niño Jesús* (Baby Jesus).
