Maundy Thursday, known as *Skærtorsdag* in Danish, is a significant day in Denmark, marking the beginning of the Easter celebrations. It falls on the Thursday before Easter Sunday and is part of Holy Week in the Christian tradition. The day commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, as well as the institution of the Eucharist. In Denmark, Maundy Thursday is a quieter, reflective day compared to other Easter festivities. Many Danes attend church services, where the focus is on themes of humility, service, and sacrifice. The name *Skærtorsdag* comes from the Old Norse word *skær*, meaning "clean" or "pure," reflecting the spiritual cleansing associated with the day.
